Postures Vases: Modern Ikebana by Carl Kleiner

Ikebana, or literally translated “living flowers” is the Japanese art of arranging florals. In Ikebana, the composition, linework, and shape are of most importance. The art form comes from Buddhist traditions in which people would offer the arrangements to the dead.

These days, however, Ikebana is used as more as a fashion statement. It’s minimalistic aesthetic really fits into the current zeitgeist’s interior style and many artist experiment with modernized versions of the technique, including still life photographer, Carl Kleiner. In his photography series “Postures Vases“, Kleiner showcases thirteen different Ikebana arrangements that reflect our current zeitgeist’s design aesthetic.
